Lions Drop Road Doubleheader to Southern Union, Fall to 23-18
WADLEY, Ala. — Wallace State dropped both games of a road conference doubleheader at Southern Union on Thursday, falling 4-3 in a walk-off in the opener and 14-4 in the nightcap. The Lions fall to 23-18 overall and 12-10 in ACCC play.
GAME 1: Southern Union 4, Wallace State 3
Wallace State scored three runs in the third inning to take a 3-0 lead but could not hold it. Southern Union answered with two runs in the fourth, one in the sixth, and one in the seventh to walk off with the victory.
Wallace State finished with just one hit — a single by Connor Elmore. The Lions drew five walks and struck out ten times as a team. Connor Lowery scored one run and drew a walk. Carter Cumming drove in one run and drew a walk. Aiden Boileau drove in one run.
Baylen Tuten started and worked five innings, allowing five hits and two earned runs while striking out seven and walking three. Druw Smith took the loss in relief, working one and two-thirds innings and allowing three hits and two runs — one earned — while striking out two.
GAME 2: Southern Union 14, Wallace State 4
Southern Union scored five runs in the third, two in the fourth, and five in the fifth to pull away. Wallace State scored two runs in the first and two more in the fifth but could not generate consistent offense, finishing with five hits.
Aiden Boileau homered and finished 2-for-3 with two RBI and five total bases. Cooper Clemmons doubled and drove in two runs. Israel Navarro added a hit.
Rhys Klein started and took the loss, working two and two-thirds innings and allowing seven runs — all earned — on six hits while striking out four and walking two. Colton Parten, Tyde Borden, and Braden Pourron each followed in relief with Southern Union scoring nine combined runs against the trio.
