Lions Split Home Doubleheader with Gadsden State, Stand at 22-15
HANCEVILLE, Ala. — Wallace State split a home conference doubleheader with Gadsden State on Thursday, winning the opener 6-4 before falling 11-9 in the nightcap. The Lions move to 22-15 overall and 11-7 in ACCC play.
GAME 1: Wallace State 6, Gadsden State 4
Wallace State scored four runs in the first inning and added two more in the third to build a 6-1 lead. Gadsden State scored one run in each of the first two innings and two more in the fourth but could not overcome the early deficit.
Clint Seymore went 2-for-2 with a home run and four RBI, leading the offense with five total bases. Carter Cumming went 3-for-3 and scored once. Connor Lowery added a double and finished 1-for-2 with a run scored.
Druw Smith started and worked three and two-thirds innings, allowing five hits and four runs — two earned — while striking out three and walking four. Matthew Lyons relieved Smith and threw three and one-third innings of scoreless ball, allowing two hits, striking out four, and walking none to close out the win.
GAME 2: Gadsden State 11, Wallace State 9
Gadsden State scored five runs in the third inning and four more in the eighth to pull away after Wallace State led 2-1 through two innings. The Lions scored five runs in the seventh to close within 7-9 but could not complete the comeback, and Gadsden State added a run in the ninth to seal the result. Wallace State finished with 15 hits.
Carter Cumming went 4-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBI. Tucker Rickman went 2-for-5 with three RBI and a double. Carson Burdette and Israel Navarro each went 2-for-5 with a double and one RBI apiece.
Sam Vincent started and allowed six hits and six earned runs in two and one-third innings. Rhys Klein took the loss in relief, working six innings and allowing four hits and five runs — one earned — while striking out one and walking one.
