Early Surge Too Much for Wallace State in 16-6 Loss to Southeastern CC
DECATUR, Miss. — A big early inning proved too much for Wallace State to overcome Sunday, as the Lions fell 16-6 to Southeastern Community College (Iowa) at East Central Community College.
After Wallace State matched Southeastern with two runs in the opening inning, the game quickly shifted in the second. Southeastern erupted for six runs in the frame and never relinquished control, adding insurance runs in the sixth and seventh innings to pull away.
The Lions finished with nine hits and showed flashes offensively despite playing from behind most of the day. Israel Navarro led the effort with a home run and two RBIs, while Aiden Boileau added a pair of hits and drove in a run. Dyris Martinez and Cooper Clemmons also recorded RBIs, contributing to Wallace State's six-run output.
Carter Cumming and Clint Seymore each collected two hits, helping pace the Lions' offense alongside Martinez, who added two hits of his own.
On the mound, Wallace State struggled to contain Southeastern's lineup early. Connor Lowery took the loss after allowing eight runs, four earned, over 1.2 innings. Rhys Klein provided some stability in relief, working four innings and allowing just three runs, none earned, while striking out two. Jacob James also saw action out of the bullpen.
Southeastern capitalized on its opportunities throughout, totaling 17 hits and taking advantage of four Wallace State errors to extend innings and create separation.
Despite the loss, Wallace State showed resilience at the plate, but the early deficit proved too much to overcome as Southeastern maintained control from the second inning on.
