Late Sixth-Inning Rally Lifts Wallace State Past Coastal Alabama–South, 5-4
The Wallace State Lions rallied with three runs in the top of the sixth inning to erase a late deficit and claim a 5-4 conference road victory over Coastal Alabama–South on March 5.
Trailing 4-2 entering the sixth inning, the Lions mounted their decisive rally to take control of the game. Wallace State capitalized on timely hitting to push across three runs in the frame, turning a two-run deficit into a one-run lead they would not relinquish.
Wallace State finished with eight hits in the contest. Aiden Boileau led the offensive effort with a 2-for-4 performance that included a double, one run scored and an RBI. Will Clark also recorded two hits in four at-bats and scored a run to help pace the Lions' lineup.
Carter Cumming, Cooper Clemmons and Tucker Rickman each delivered key RBIs in the win. Rickman drove in two runs, including one during the Lions' sixth-inning rally. Clemmons added an RBI while reaching base and scoring a run, and Cumming finished with a run scored and an RBI of his own.
Clint Seymore contributed with a hit, a run scored and two walks, helping Wallace State generate scoring opportunities throughout the game.
On the mound, Drew Smith earned the victory after working five innings. Smith allowed four runs on four hits while striking out four and walking three. Despite surrendering two home runs, he kept the Lions within striking distance long enough for the offense to rally.
Eli Cannon closed the door over the final two innings to secure the win and record the save. Cannon allowed just one hit while striking out four batters, shutting down Coastal Alabama–South's offense to preserve the one-run lead.
The Lions' combination of timely hitting and strong relief pitching proved to be the difference as Wallace State completed the comeback to earn the conference road victory.
