Late Push Lifts Wallace State Past Holmes CC 5-4 at East Central
DECATUR, Miss. — Wallace State used timely hitting and a strong bullpen effort to edge Holmes Community College 5-4 on Sunday in a tightly contested matchup at East Central Community College.
The Lions struck first with two runs in the opening inning, setting an early tone before Holmes answered and eventually grabbed momentum midway through the game. Trailing late, Wallace State responded with a key push, plating two runs in the eighth inning to reclaim the lead and ultimately secure the one-run victory.
Offensively, the Lions totaled 10 hits and were paced by Aiden Boileau, who delivered a standout performance with two hits, including a home run, and two RBIs. Dyris Martinez added a pair of doubles, while Connor Elmore chipped in with two hits of his own.
Baylen Tuten and Clint Seymore each contributed RBIs, and Cooper Clemmons added a hit as Wallace State pieced together consistent production throughout the lineup. The Lions also stayed aggressive on the bases, with Tuten and Jayden Charles recording stolen bases.
On the mound, Wallace State leaned on a combination of arms to secure the win. Sam Vincent handled the bulk of the work, going 5.1 innings while allowing four runs, three earned, on nine hits with five strikeouts. Matthew Lyons proved to be the difference out of the bullpen, earning the win after tossing 3.2 innings of one-hit, scoreless relief while striking out three.
Despite Holmes collecting 10 hits, Wallace State's pitching staff limited damage in key moments, while the offense delivered when it mattered most late.
The victory highlighted the Lions' ability to execute in close games, using timely hits and shutdown relief pitching to close out a hard-fought win on the road.
