Emersyn White is a freshman defensive specialist and libero from Smiths Station, Alabama, and a 2026 graduate of Glenwood School. White began playing volleyball in the sixth grade and developed a love for competing alongside her teammates.

Her favorite high school athletic memories came from taking the court with her best friends and representing Glenwood School in front of their fans.

“Competing with my best friends every game in front of our fans and wearing Glenwood across our chests is something I will always remember,” White said.

White chose Wallace State because of its close-knit environment and the successful culture surrounding the volleyball program.

“I liked the small-school environment and the hardworking, winning culture of the program,” White said.

She credits her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, with having the greatest impact on her athletic journey by giving her the ability to play volleyball and the opportunity to use her talents to the best of her ability.

One of White’s proudest moments as an athlete was signing to continue her volleyball career at Wallace State in front of her school, family, friends and supporters.

Through athletics, White has learned the importance of discipline and time management. She works to stay organized and on top of her responsibilities so she can perform at her best both academically and athletically.

White’s goals for her freshman season include stepping outside her comfort zone, making the most of every opportunity and helping the Lions succeed. She also hopes the team can build a strong bond and compete for a conference championship.

“I’m hoping we can bond as a team and work to win a conference championship,” White said. “I want to make the most out of my time, step out of my comfort zone and be successful.”

As a defensive specialist and libero, White enjoys serving and defensive drills. Before matches, she listens to music through her AirPods, occasionally takes a quick nap and makes sure she has gum to chew. Her preferred pregame music comes from her worship playlist.

White mentally prepares for competition by visualizing herself making plays, listening to worship music and praying to remain calm and focused.

She believes her teammates would describe her as hardworking, encouraging and someone who always wants what is best for the entire team. While she enjoys supporting and celebrating her teammates, she is also willing to push them to reach their potential and never settle for less than their best.

Had she not chosen volleyball, White said she would likely compete in basketball or flag football. Although she does not have a favorite professional athlete, she draws motivation from her faith, teammates, coaches and the opportunity to improve each day.

A unique fact about White is that she won a state championship in 3D archery when she was younger. She can also walk on stilts.

Outside volleyball, White enjoys spending time with friends, tanning and taking naps.

After college, White plans to become a veterinarian and hopes to have a family. During her time at Wallace State, she wants to be remembered as a leader who set a positive example, gave everything she had on the court and celebrated the accomplishments of her teammates more than her own.

“I want to be remembered as a leader who led by example, left it all out on the court, encouraged my teammates and celebrated them more than myself,” White said. “I also want to leave the program better than I found it.”

White’s advice to younger athletes is to work hard, focus on the things they can control and understand the importance of being a supportive teammate and coachable player.

“Always work hard and control what you can control,” White said. “Being a good teammate and a coachable player speaks volumes more about you than any statistic or accomplishment ever could.”
