Madison Rose Morris is a freshman setter from Helena, Alabama, and a 2026 graduate of Helena High School. Morris began playing volleyball when she was 8 years old and has continued developing her skills and passion for the sport ever since.

One of her favorite high school athletic memories was spending time with her teammates in the locker room before matches. The team would bring in a speaker and dance and sing together before game days, creating memories that extended beyond the court.

Morris chose Wallace State because she wanted to join a program that would challenge her and push her to become a better player.

“I wanted to be pushed and challenged on the court, and I felt that Wallace State was the perfect place for that,” Morris said.

She credits her father with having the greatest impact on her athletic journey. He has consistently encouraged her to improve as a player, teammate and person while helping her work through the obstacles she has faced.

“He has always pushed me to be better and helped me through every obstacle I’ve faced since becoming an athlete,” Morris said.

Her proudest moment as a Wallace State athlete so far has been seeing her growth as a player and teammate throughout the spring season.

College athletics has taught Morris to focus more on growth than perfection. She understands that neither an athlete nor the game itself will ever be perfect and believes improvement comes by taking each day as it comes.

“I’ve learned to focus on growth rather than perfection,” Morris said. “The game and you will never be perfect, so take it day by day.”

Morris balances volleyball and academics by giving both equal importance. She remains organized with her schoolwork and carefully manages her time to make sure assignments are completed.

Her primary personal goal is to stop placing so much pressure on herself to be perfect. She wants to avoid allowing one small mistake to affect her confidence or distract her from the next play.

“Don’t let one little mistake get in your head,” Morris said. “Have confidence and keep moving forward.”

Morris enjoys spending time in the weight room, especially during leg-day workouts. She views workouts as an opportunity to improve physically while also having personal time to relax and feel at ease.

Before matches, Morris follows a unique ritual of eating one blue Jolly Rancher before beginning warmups. Her go-to hype song is “Maneater” by Nelly Furtado.

She mentally prepares for competition by listening to music through her headphones while traveling to a match. The routine allows her to become focused and ready to compete.

Morris believes her teammates would describe her as outgoing, energetic and someone who is almost always smiling.

Had she not chosen volleyball, Morris said she would likely play pickleball, which is also one of her favorite hobbies outside athletics.

Her favorite professional volleyball player is Elena Scott. Morris admires Scott’s work ethic on and off the court and the positive energy she brings to the game.

“She is always hardworking on and off the court and always has a smile on her face,” Morris said.

A fun fact about Morris is that she considers herself an open book and is comfortable talking about almost anything.

After college, Morris plans to become an obstetric and gynecologic sonographer.

During her time at Wallace State, Morris hopes to be remembered as a great teammate and leader who brought energy, positivity and encouragement to the program.

Her advice to younger athletes is to take their journeys one day at a time and avoid expecting perfection from themselves.

“Take it slowly, day by day,” Morris said. “Nobody is perfect. Prioritize yourself throughout the process and make sure you take care of yourself.”
