Wallace State Volleyball Shines at Fall Bash with 4-0 Weekend

CULLMAN – Wallace State volleyball turned in a dominant showing at its annual Fall Bash, winning all four matches across two days at the Cullman Omniplex. The Lions defeated Bevill State and Vincennes (IN) on Friday before taking down Itawamba (MS) and Walters State (TN) on Saturday, improving to 20-2 overall on the season.

Friday Recap

The Lions opened the tournament with a 3-1 (25-18, 25-16, 20-25, 25-22) win over Bevill State. Sofiia Sobol and Makenzie Noles powered the attack with 12 kills apiece. Abby McDonald paced the defense with 15 digs, while setter Ali Price dished out 34 assists.

In their second match of the day, Wallace State avenged a loss from two weeks ago with a convincing sweep of Vincennes (26-24, 25-10, 25-20). Rachel Mecklenburg and Noles tallied 11 kills each, with Sobol adding 10. McDonald collected 11 digs, Sobol chipped in 10, and Price directed the offense with 22 assists, while Mecklenburg contributed 17.

Coach Randy Daniel on Day 1:

"We played well enough to win vs. Bevill. Kenzie Wilson and Kenzie Noles both played very well. The Vincennes match was a collective win, as the team as a whole played very well. Rachel and Kenzie Wilson both did a great job. Sofiia and Kenzie Noles were much more consistent in passing and attacking."

Saturday Recap

Wallace State carried the momentum into Saturday, defeating Itawamba 3-1 (25-16, 19-25, 25-16, 25-21). Mecklenburg turned in a standout performance with 21 kills and 16 digs. Noles added 12 kills and 13 digs, while Price recorded a double-double with 35 assists and 16 digs. Darcy Alford chipped in 10 digs.

The Lions capped the weekend with a sweep of Walters State (25-19, 25-12, 25-15). Mecklenburg again led the way with 20 kills and 11 digs. McDonald anchored the back row with 19 digs, while Price handed out 38 assists to go along with 13 digs.

Coach Daniel on Day 2:

"It was a battle all weekend, and I'm really proud of my team's perseverance. I felt we just kept fighting and finding ways to win a match. I felt Kenzie Wilson and Rachel Mecklenburg were very good again today for us. Darcy stepped in for Sofiia and played well. I'm very proud of my team's 20-2 start, need to keep our focus because we have no time to relax with the games we have next week."
