Wallace State Men’s Soccer Wins ACCC Championship in Dramatic Overtime

MILLBROOK, AL — Wallace State men's soccer captured the ACCC Conference Championship on Sunday with a thrilling 2-1 overtime victory over Southern Union at 17 Springs.

The Lions showed tremendous resilience after conceding in the opening 15 minutes. Despite creating several quality chances throughout regulation, Wallace State was held scoreless until the final minute. With just 58 seconds remaining, Matti Stöcker delivered a pinpoint pass that found Yaya Jawneh, who calmly slotted home the equalizer to send the match to extra time.

The momentum carried into overtime, where the Lions needed only one period to finish the job. Off a perfectly placed corner from Javier Miranda, Shishio Abram curled in the golden goal directly off the set piece, sparking a celebration as Wallace State clinched the conference crown.

"Truly that game showed the character of this team to continue fighting until the last minute to get a goal and keep the game going," said Wallace State head coach James Fee, who was also named ACCC Coach of the Year. "It was great winning coach of the year, but it's solely down to this team. They truly are a special group and I'm incredibly lucky to be part of it."

Several Lions stood out in the championship effort, with Fee crediting Shishio Abram, Juan Gazga, Santiago Acosta, and Javier Miranda for their impact throughout the match.

Wallace State goalkeeper Emrik Senécal was honored as the ACCC Player of the Year after a dominant season between the posts. Senécal recorded four conference shutouts and five overall, allowed more than one goal just once, and finished the season with 11 wins, one loss, and three ties.

The Lions conclude the regular season with an 11-1-3 record and now advance to the Southeast District Tournament. Wallace State will face Georgia Military College in the semifinals at 17 Springs in Millbrook on Friday at 1:00 p.m.
