Wong Leads Wallace State to 3-1 Win Over Calhoun

CULLMAN – Wallace State men's soccer picked up a key 3-1 victory over Calhoun on Sunday, powered by a pair of goals from sophomore forward Elijah Wong.

The Lions wasted little time setting the tone. Less than two minutes into the match, Javier Miranda found the back of the net to put Wallace State ahead. Just over three minutes later, Wong doubled the lead with his first goal of the afternoon, giving the Lions a quick 2-0 cushion.

Calhoun clawed back early in the second half when a defensive miscue saw the ball deflect off a Wallace defender and into the net. But Wong put the game out of reach less than 10 minutes later, winning a long ball against two defenders and slotting it past the keeper for the decisive goal.

"He was an absolute monster, chasing every ball down and challenging the two center backs," head coach James Fee said of Wong's performance.

While the attack made headlines, the Lions' defense played a crucial role down the stretch. Calhoun kept the pressure on throughout the final third of the match, forcing Wallace to defend a barrage of direct balls into the box.

"Defense held firm after one bad moment," Fee added. "Incredibly proud of the defenders to stand strong and handle too many direct balls into their box."

With the win, Wallace State continues to build momentum in its season, combining early offensive firepower with resilience on the back line.
