Wallace State Sweeps Northwest Shoals in Four-Game Series
HANCEVILLE, Ala. — Wallace State completed a four-game conference sweep of Northwest Shoals, winning by scores of 9-0, 2-1, 16-8 and 2-0.
The Lady Lions opened the series with a dominant 9-0 victory behind a no-hitter from Madeline Howard. Howard worked all five innings, allowing no hits while striking out two and walking one. Offensively, Brooklynn Sertell went 1-for-3 with a home run and two RBIs to help lead Wallace State at the plate.
Wallace State followed with a 2-1 win in Game 2. Ava Smith earned the win in the circle, tossing 6.1 innings and allowing one run on seven hits with three strikeouts. The Lady Lions finished with four hits in the game, with Reese Decker driving in two runs.
The offense broke out in Game 3 with a 16-8 win. Wallace State scored nine runs in the first inning and totaled 15 hits in the game. Blakelyn Austin led the way with two home runs and five RBIs. Charli Kyser added a home run and three RBIs, while Brooklynn Sertell drove in three runs. Kaelyn Jones, Tenajya Thomas and Leah Graves each contributed multiple hits in the win.
In the series finale, Wallace State secured the sweep with a 2-0 victory. Smith pitched a complete game shutout, allowing four hits with four strikeouts and one walk over seven innings. Offensively, the Lady Lions collected 10 hits, including multi-hit performances from Reese Decker and Tenajya Thomas.
Wallace State improves to 39-10 overall and 22-6 in conference play.
The Lady Lions will close out the regular season with a four-game series against Coastal Alabama-South, beginning with a home doubleheader on Thursday.
