Lady Lions Sweep Gadsden State in Conference Doubleheader, Move to 10-4 in ACCC
GADSDEN, Ala. — Wallace State swept a road conference doubleheader at Gadsden State on Thursday, winning 3-2 and 5-4 to improve to 27-8 overall and 10-4 in ACCC play.
GAME 1: Wallace State 3, Gadsden State 2
Wallace State scored single runs in the first, third, and sixth innings to build a 3-0 lead before Gadsden State scored twice in the fifth and seventh innings. Kaelyn Jones led the offense going 3-for-4 with a run scored and a stolen base. Reese Decker went 2-for-4 with one RBI, and Kenley Vaughn added two hits in three at-bats. Wallace State finished with 10 hits and drew no walks.
Madeline Howard started and worked six and one-third innings, allowing seven hits and two earned runs while striking out four and walking three on 98 pitches. Taylor Stalling closed out the final two outs with two-thirds of an inning of scoreless relief.
GAME 2: Wallace State 5, Gadsden State 4
Gadsden State jumped out to a 2-0 lead after the first inning and added a run in the third to lead 3-0 before Wallace State responded with three runs in the fourth, one in the fifth, and one in the sixth to take a 5-3 advantage. Gadsden State pulled within one with a seventh-inning run but could not complete the comeback.
Blakelyn Austin went 3-for-3 with a run scored and a stolen base to lead the offense. Sydney Gurley hit a home run and finished 1-for-4 with three RBI. Charli Kyser also homered, going 1-for-4 with one RBI. Tenayja Thomas went 2-for-4 with a double, a stolen base, and three total bases.
Taylor Stalling started and allowed four hits and three earned runs over two innings before Camdyn Bassett took over and worked five innings, allowing four hits and one earned run while walking two. Bassett did not record a strikeout.
