No. 5 Wallace State sweeps doubleheader with dominant shutouts of Alpena
HANCEVILLE, Ala. — No. 5 Wallace State left no doubt on Wednesday.
Behind dominant pitching, timely power, and relentless offensive pressure, the Lady Lions rolled to a doubleheader sweep of Alpena, winning 8-0 in Game 1 and 16-0 in Game 2 in a pair of run-rule victories.
Wallace State (7-2) combined for 24 runs on 23 hits across the two games, while the pitching staff allowed just five total hits and zero runs, continuing what has quickly become a defining identity early in the 2026 season.
Game 1: Wallace State 8, Alpena 0
The Lady Lions set the tone early and never let up.
Wallace State plated runs in four of the first six innings, highlighted by a balanced offensive attack and aggressive baserunning. Allyssa Hunt powered the offense, finishing with two hits, three runs scored, and two RBIs, while Brooklynn Sertell added two hits and two RBIs.
Extra-base production fueled the surge. Hunt and Sertell each homered, while Kaelyn Jones, Teagan Harmon, and Tenayja Thomas all contributed to a steady stream of total bases that kept Alpena on its heels.
In the circle, Wallace State was just as sharp.
Camdyn Bassett earned the win, tossing four shutout innings, allowing just two hits while striking out four. Ava Smith closed it out with two hitless innings, combining with Bassett for a two-hit shutout.
Game 2: Wallace State 16, Alpena 0
If Game 1 was control, Game 2 was complete domination.
Wallace State erupted for 16 runs on 16 hits, including a six-run second inning that effectively ended the contest early.
Tenayja Thomas sparked the offense with a 3-for-3 performance and three runs scored, while Hunt continued her big day with two hits and four RBIs, including a home run. Teagan Harmon also went deep and drove in three runs, and Sertell added two hits and four RBIs of her own.
The Lady Lions showcased depth throughout the lineup, with contributions coming from top to bottom, including multi-hit games and extra-base hits from several players.
In the circle, Wallace State remained untouchable.
Taylor Stalling started and delivered three shutout innings, allowing two hits, and Madeline Howard followed with two scoreless frames to secure the combined shutout. The duo limited Alpena to just three hits while striking out five.
