Wallace State women's golf eighth after opening round at NJCAA Division II National Championship
TUSCALOOSA — Wallace State opened play Tuesday at the NJCAA Division II Women's Golf National Championship at Ol' Colony Golf Club, finishing the first round in eighth place on the team leaderboard.
The Lady Lions remain within reach of the top five after the opening 18 holes. Wallace State is one shot behind the three teams tied for fifth place and three shots behind fourth-place Southern Union State Community College.
Shelton State Community College leads the tournament after the first round, followed by Murray State (Okla.) in second and Jefferson State Community College in third. Southern Union is fourth, while Mesa Community College, Jacksonville College (Texas) and Florida Gateway College are tied for fifth.
Individually, Mallory Brooks led Wallace State on the first day and is tied for 10th at 7-over. Alyssa Warren is tied for 13th at 10-over.
Jazmin Conn is tied for 35th, Shea Kelley is tied for 52nd and Jacie Blackwood is 64th.
The national championship continues Wednesday with the second round at Ol' Colony Golf Club.
