The Wallace State Community College men's basketball team delivered one of its most explosive offensive performances of the season Monday night, defeating Calhoun Community College 109–101 in a high-scoring conference matchup at Traditions Bank Arena.
The Lions used a balanced scoring attack and efficient shooting to secure the victory, shooting 58.8 percent from the field and 46.4 percent from three-point range while placing five players in double figures.
Wallace State came out aggressive and built momentum early, taking a 51–40 lead into halftime behind hot shooting and strong inside play. Calhoun responded in the second half with a surge of its own, scoring 61 points after the break, but the Lions consistently answered to maintain control down the stretch.
Freshman guard Sawyer Griffin led the offensive outburst with 20 points, connecting on 6-of-10 from three-point range to stretch the Calhoun defense throughout the night. Griffin's perimeter shooting provided critical spacing and helped ignite several key runs for the Lions.
Kylen Clark added 17 points, knocking down a pair of three-pointers and converting all five of his free throws. Clark also contributed two assists while helping orchestrate Wallace State's offensive rhythm.
Forward Trey Knight delivered a strong all-around performance with 15 points, seven assists, and five rebounds, playing a key role as both scorer and facilitator. His ability to create opportunities for teammates helped the Lions record 20 assists on the night.
Inside, Tyson Barrett was a force on the boards, finishing with 15 points and a team-high 10 rebounds to record a double-double. Barrett's presence in the paint helped Wallace State dominate second-chance opportunities, as the Lions scored 25 second-chance points and held a 36–16 rebounding advantage.
Reserve forward Austin Davenport also provided a major spark off the bench, contributing 11 points and 10 rebounds in just 20 minutes.
In a game defined by offensive rhythm and physical play inside, Wallace State's combination of perimeter shooting, rebounding dominance, and balanced scoring allowed the Lions to pull away late and secure the conference victory.
