Wallace State Men Drop 88–82 Road Decision at Calhoun
Decatur, Ala. — Wallace State men's basketball came up short on the road Monday night, falling 88–82 to Calhoun despite a balanced effort and strong second-half push.
The Lions trailed 41–35 at halftime after Calhoun built momentum late in the first half. Austin Davenport led Wallace State early with 10 points and eight rebounds in the opening half, while Trey Knight added eight points and four assists to keep the Lions within striking distance.
Wallace State made its push after the break behind Viczavious Madden, who sparked the offense with 18 second-half points. The Lions battled throughout the final 20 minutes but were unable to fully close the gap as Calhoun held on for the six-point win.
Despite the loss, Wallace State controlled the glass, outrebounding Calhoun 37–32, and shared the ball effectively with 19 assists on 32 made field goals. Turnovers proved costly, however, as the Lions committed 16 turnovers, allowing Calhoun to capitalize in key moments.
Madden led all scorers for Wallace State with 24 points to go along with six rebounds. Knight finished with 12 points, nine assists and three steals, while Davenport recorded a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds, adding an assist, a steal and a block.
Jaeden Rush added 10 points, four rebounds and three assists. Tyson Barrett contributed nine points and 11 rebounds, along with three assists, a steal and three blocks. Sawyer Griffin chipped in six points and two steals, Kylen Clark added six points and two rebounds, and Hayden Shadrick and Tony Wilson rounded out the scoring.
Wallace State will look to regroup and build on the positive stretches from Monday's performance as conference play continues.
