Lady Lions Sit Second, Advance Four Entries to NJCAA Championship Matches
SUMTER, S.C. — Wallace State women's tennis advanced two singles players and two doubles teams to championship matches Tuesday during Day 4 of the NJCAA Division I Women's Tennis National Championships.
The Lady Lions currently sit in second place in the overall standings, 4.5 points behind Jones College.
Lydia Lichlyter and Elizabeth Standifer both won semifinal matches in singles play, while the doubles teams of Jaedyn Martin/Lichlyter and Elizabeth Standifer/Jayden Johnson also advanced to their respective flight championship matches.
Lichlyter, the No. 2 seed in Flight 4 singles, defeated No. 3 Amber Langendries 6-1, 7-5 to advance to the championship match. Elizabeth Standifer, the No. 1 seed in Flight 5 singles, defeated Andee Rogers 6-0, 6-0.
In Flight 2 consolation singles, Jaedyn Martin defeated Aida Torrealba 8-3 to advance to the consolation championship match.
Wallace State also picked up two wins in doubles play. The No. 1-seeded team of Jayden Johnson and Elizabeth Standifer defeated No. 5 Ady Preston and Kynley Williams 6-1, 6-2. The No. 2-seeded team of Lichlyter and Martin defeated No. 3 Hannah Stenger and Nadja Walter 6-1, 6-1.
Madison Standifer and Indira Wilson, the No. 2 seed in their doubles flight, fell to No. 3 Ivanna De Gregorio and Shana Mao 7-6, 6-1.
In other singles matches, Madison Standifer, the No. 3 seed in Flight 1, fell to No. 2 Ruri Takeuchi 4-6, 6-4, 6-0. Indira Wilson, the No. 3 seed in Flight 3, fell to No. 2 Victoria Ros 6-1, 6-3. Jayden Johnson, the No. 3 seed in Flight 6, fell to No. 2 Josie Tullos 6-4, 6-1.
The singles championship matches are scheduled for 9 a.m. Wednesday. Martin will play in the Flight 2 consolation championship at 10:30 a.m. The doubles championship matches are scheduled for noon.
