#12 Lady Lions Defeat #20 Northwest Mississippi 7-2 on the Road
SENATOBIA, Miss. – The No. 12 Wallace State women's tennis team continued its strong start to the season with a 7-2 road victory over #20 Northwest Mississippi. The Lady Lions controlled the match early with a strong doubles showing and followed with key singles wins to secure the victory.
Wallace State claimed the doubles point by winning two of three courts, then added five singles victories to pull away for the win.
Six Lady Lions contributed to the victory, led by Madison Standifer, Jaedyn Martin, and Lydia Lichlyter, who each earned wins in both doubles and singles play. Indira Wilson also picked up a singles victory, while Jayden Johnson added another key point to round out the effort.
Standifer and Wilson opened doubles play with an 8-3 victory on the top court. Martin and Lichlyter followed with an 8-2 win on court two to secure the doubles point. Northwest Mississippi claimed the third doubles court.
In singles play, Standifer led the way with a dominant 6-0, 6-0 win on court one. Martin followed with a strong 6-2, 6-0 victory on court two, while Wilson added a 6-7, 7-5, 7-1 win in a tightly contested match on court three. Lichlyter delivered a 6-0, 6-3 win on court four, and Johnson secured a 6-7, 6-3, 6-3 victory on court five.
Northwest Mississippi picked up its points on courts five and six.
