Lady Lions Defeat Berry College 5-2 at Rome Tennis Center
ROME, Ga. — The Wallace State women's tennis team stayed unbeaten on the young season with a 5-2 victory over NCAA Division III Berry College on Friday at the Rome Tennis Center. The Lady Lions used a strong overall performance in both singles and doubles play to pull away and secure the win.
Wallace State picked up four key points in singles action to take control of the match. Jaedyn Martin delivered a dominant showing at No. 2 singles, earning a 6-2, 6-2 victory, while Indira Wilson followed with a convincing 6-1, 6-4 win at the No. 3 spot. Lydia Lichlyter added another point for the Lady Lions at No. 4 singles with a 7-5, 6-1 victory, and Jayden Johnson closed out singles play with a solid 6-3, 6-3 win at No. 5.
Berry College picked up singles wins at No. 1 and No. 6. Madison Standifer battled in a tight three-set match at the top of the lineup, falling 4-6, 6-2, 6-10 in the deciding super tiebreaker, while Savanna Privett dropped a 6-3, 6-3 decision at No. 6.
The Lady Lions sealed the team victory by sweeping all three doubles matches. Martin and Standifer edged out a hard-fought 7-6 (7-5) win at No. 1 doubles, while Wilson and Lichlyter earned a 6-4 victory at the No. 2 position. Johnson and Privett completed the doubles sweep with a 6-4 win at No. 3.
With the win, Wallace State improves to 3-0 on the season, continuing a strong start as the Lady Lions build momentum heading into the next stretch of their schedule.
