No. 12 Lady Lions Roll Past No. 23 Meridian CC 8-1
HANCEVILLE — The No. 12 Wallace State women's tennis team delivered a dominant performance in a home match on Friday, cruising to an 8-1 victory over No. 23 Meridian (Miss.) Community College. The Lady Lions controlled the match from start to finish, winning five of six singles matches and sweeping doubles play.
Wallace State set the tone in singles action by claiming five points. Jaedyn Martin picked up a key win at No. 2 singles, earning a hard-fought 6-4, 7-6 victory, while Indira Wilson followed with a commanding 6-2, 6-1 win at the No. 3 position. Lydia Lichlyter added another point at No. 4 with a 6-1, 6-4 victory, and Jayden Johnson was flawless at No. 5, posting a dominant 6-0, 6-0 win. Savanna Privett closed singles play with a solid 6-3, 6-0 victory at No. 6.
Meridian's lone singles point came at No. 1, where Madison Standifer battled through three sets before falling 4-6, 6-2, 5-10 in the deciding super tiebreaker.
The Lady Lions completed the victory by sweeping all three doubles matches. Martin and Standifer earned an 8-6 win at the No. 1 position, while Wilson and Lichlyter cruised to an 8-1 victory at No. 2 doubles. Johnson and Privett capped the doubles sweep with an 8-2 win at No. 3.
With the win, Wallace State continued its strong early-season momentum, picking up an emphatic victory over a nationally ranked opponent.
