Wallace State Women’s Golf Finishes 5th in NJCAA Div II Nationals

The Wallace State women's golf team capped the year with a fifth-place finish at the NJCAA Division II National Championship.

The Lions competed at the four-day national tournament at the Cedar Point Golf Course in Boone, Iowa. The Lions finished with a team score of 1,372 (+220) over four rounds of action.

I am very proud of these young ladies," Coach JJ Adams said. "They have worked very hard all year through the peaks and valleys. It was very difficult conditions with upwards of 40 mph winds. I'm very excited for the fall to see what we can improve on and get back to work."

Wallace State started the tournament with a 338 in the first round and five strokes better in the second round with a 333. Unfortunately, the third round was the worst for the Lions, as they finished with a score of 352. They finished with a 349 in the final round.

The play of freshman Mallory Brooks led Wallace State at the national tournament. She had a sixth-place finish at nationals. Brooks posted a score of 318 (+30) over four rounds. She opened with a 78 in the first round, before shooting 75 in the second round. She rounded out the tournament with an 84 in the third round and an 81 in the fourth. She earned NJCAA first-team All-American honors with her sixth-place finish.

Alyssa Warren tied for 21st place with a score of 334 (+46) for the second-best finish for the Lions. Lanie Cornelius finished with a score of 338 (+50), good for 25th place overall. Jacie Blackwood and Natalie Mason shot a 386 (+98) and a 400 (+112), respectively.
