Wallace State Delivers March Message, Rolls Past Calhoun 80-35 in Conference Rout
On a March afternoon inside Traditions Bank Arena, Wallace State Community College reminded the rest of the conference why it continues to profile as a postseason problem, overwhelming Calhoun Community College 80-35 in a wire-to-wire dismantling that was as much about precision as it was power.
From an efficiency standpoint, this was a clinic.
Wallace State shot 51.7 percent from the floor and assisted on 25 of its 30 made field goals — a staggering number at any level, but particularly in a conference game where familiarity often breeds defensive resistance. The Lady Lions didn't just make shots; they manufactured them. Crisp ball reversals, purposeful paint touches, and unselfish decision-making forced Calhoun into constant rotation. By the end of the first half, the Warhawks were chasing both the ball and the scoreboard.
Kameron Sanders set the tone early and never let it dip. Her 20 points came on an ultra-efficient 8-of-11 shooting performance, and she bullied her way to nine rebounds, controlling the interior on both ends. Sanders' footwork in the paint was sharp, and her timing on the glass created extra possessions that slowly drained the competitive oxygen from Calhoun.
Sinaya Gibson added 17 points on 61.5 percent shooting, thriving in the space created by Wallace State's inside-out rhythm. Jada Peterson chipped in 11, continuing what has become a hallmark of this team — balanced scoring with multiple players capable of taking over stretches.
But the separation wasn't just offensive.
Defensively, Wallace State was suffocating. Calhoun shot just 28.3 percent from the field and failed to convert at the free-throw line, a crippling combination when trying to mount any kind of comeback. The Lady Lions forced 14 turnovers while committing only six themselves, consistently converting defensive stops into transition opportunities. The rebounding battle (37-25) further underscored Wallace State's physical and mental control of the game.
This wasn't merely a lopsided win; it was a statement in discipline. High-percentage shots. Limited turnovers. Connected team defense. In March, those ingredients travel — and they win.
If this performance is any indication, Wallace State isn't just playing well. It's peaking — and the rest of the league has been put on notice.
