HANCEVILLE — The Wallace State Community College women's basketball team delivered a complete performance Thursday night at Traditions Bank Arena, cruising to a 104-27 victory in a game that showcased the Lady Lions' depth, efficiency, and defensive intensity.
From the opening quarter, Wallace State established control with a suffocating defense and crisp offensive execution. The Lady Lions shot an impressive 55.3 percent from the field and knocked down 12 three-pointers, spreading the floor and attacking the paint with equal effectiveness. Their unselfish approach was evident in 26 assists, as they consistently found the open shooter and turned defensive stops into fast-break opportunities.
Leah Childress led the balanced scoring effort with 20 points while adding five rebounds and five assists. Her ability to impact the game in multiple areas set the tone for Wallace State's offensive rhythm.
Taylor Smith turned in one of the most efficient performances of the night, scoring 14 points on just six shot attempts, finishing at 83.3 percent from the floor. Smith also controlled the boards with eight rebounds, helping Wallace State dominate the glass.
Kameron Sanders added 11 points on 62.5 percent shooting, providing another steady scoring option as the Lady Lions continued to extend their lead throughout the contest.
Wallace State's dominance extended beyond the scoring column. The Lady Lions controlled the rebounding battle with a commanding 42-18 advantage, including 10 offensive rebounds that led to second-chance opportunities. Defensively, they forced 20 turnovers and recorded 10 steals, disrupting their opponent's offensive flow and creating easy scoring chances in transition.
The Lady Lions' defensive pressure held the opposition to just 22.2 percent shooting from the field and 9.1 percent from three-point range. Every possession was contested, and Wallace State's energy never wavered, even as the lead grew.
Surpassing the 100-point mark highlighted the Lady Lions' offensive firepower, but their defensive discipline and rebounding dominance truly defined the night. With contributions up and down the roster, Wallace State demonstrated the depth and cohesion that will be critical as the season progresses.
The performance reinforced the Lady Lions' ability to dictate tempo, share the basketball, and overwhelm opponents with sustained intensity on both ends of the floor.
