Wallace State Women Respond With Dominant 81–26 Road Win at Calhoun
Decatur, Ala. — Wallace State women's basketball responded emphatically to its first loss of the season, dismantling Calhoun 81–26 on the road Monday night to improve to 20–1.
Coming off a narrow 45–43 setback to Shelton State, the Lady Lions showed immediate focus and intensity, taking control early and never letting Calhoun find a rhythm. Wallace State jumped out to an 18–6 lead after the first quarter, with Kameron Sanders setting the tone with eight points and five rebounds, while Sinaya Gibson added six points in the opening period.
Wallace State turned the game into a rout in the second quarter, closing the first half on a blistering 34–5 run to build a commanding 42–11 halftime lead. Balanced scoring fueled the surge, as Zamyra Goode, Idaysia Mercer, Sanders and Leah Childress each scored five points in the quarter.
The Lions continued to pour it on after the break, stretching the lead to 68–18 heading into the fourth quarter. Sanders added seven more points in the third period as Wallace State dominated both ends of the floor and maintained relentless pressure throughout the night.
Rebounding and ball movement were once again major factors for Wallace State. The Lions outrebounded Calhoun 56–22 and recorded 20 assists on 32 made field goals, consistently creating high-quality scoring opportunities while limiting the home team to one shot per possession.
Sanders led the Lions with a dominant double-double, finishing with 20 points, 14 rebounds, five assists and a block. Goode also posted a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds, adding three assists and a steal. Gibson finished with 11 points, six rebounds, two assists and a steal, while Childress added 11 points, five rebounds, three assists and a steal.
Mercer chipped in nine points, four rebounds, two assists and two steals, while Bailey Tetro scored seven points to go with two rebounds and three assists. Taylor Smith contributed four points, 10 rebounds, an assist and a steal. Heather Tetro and Nia Smith each added two points, with Smith also pulling down two rebounds and recording a steal. Karma Wynn and Jada Peterson rounded out the stat sheet with key defensive contributions.
With the convincing win, Wallace State showed its resilience and depth, answering adversity with one of its most complete performances of the season.
