Wallace State Women Dominate Coastal Alabama–South, 63–32
HANCEVILLE — Wallace State women's basketball turned in another dominant performance Monday night, cruising to a 63–32 victory over Coastal Alabama–South behind a strong rebounding effort and balanced scoring.
The Lions set the tone early, jumping out to a 23–11 lead after the first quarter. Taylor Smith came off the bench to spark Wallace State with seven first-quarter points, while Zamyra Goode added five points and five assists as the Lions controlled the pace.
Wallace State continued to build separation in the second quarter, extending the lead to 36–16 at halftime. Goode scored six points in the period and finished the half with 11 points as the Lions limited Coastal Alabama–South's scoring opportunities and capitalized on second-chance looks.
The Lions stayed in control after the break, outscoring the Coyotes 16–11 in the third quarter to push the advantage to 52–27 heading into the final period. Wallace State maintained its defensive intensity in the fourth quarter to close out the 31-point victory.
Rebounding proved to be a major factor in the win, as Wallace State dominated the glass by a 55–28 margin, consistently limiting Coastal Alabama–South to one shot per possession. The Lions also shared the ball effectively, recording 13 assists on 21 made field goals.
Goode led Wallace State with a double-double, finishing with 17 points, 12 rebounds and six assists, along with three steals in an all-around effort. Smith also posted a double-double off the bench with 11 points and 10 rebounds.
Idaysia Mercer added 10 points, eight rebounds, three assists and a steal, while Leah Childress contributed nine points, five rebounds, an assist and a steal. Kameron Sanders finished with five points, five rebounds, two assists and a steal.
Bailey Tetro scored four points, Jada Peterson added three, and Sinaya Gibson chipped in two points, seven rebounds, an assist and a block. Heather Tetro rounded out the scoring with two points.
Wallace State's depth, rebounding and defensive discipline once again proved decisive as the Lions continue to build momentum in conference play.
