Wallace State Women Dominate Columbia State, 94–29, to Remain Unbeaten

HANCEVILLE — Wallace State women's basketball delivered another emphatic performance Thursday night, overwhelming Columbia State 94–29 in a dominant showing at home as the Lions continued their unbeaten start to the season.

Wallace State wasted no time asserting control, opening the game on a blistering 20–2 run and racing out to a 29–6 lead by the end of the first quarter. The Lions continued to pile on in the second quarter, starting the period with an 11–1 surge to extend the margin to 40–7 before carrying a commanding 52–16 advantage into halftime.

The Lions showed no signs of slowing after the break, clamping down defensively and outscoring Columbia State 22–4 in the third quarter to push the lead to 74–20 heading into the final period. Wallace State cruised through the fourth quarter to close out the 65-point victory.

Defense and ball movement were the defining themes of the night. Wallace State held the Chargers to just 13.5 percent shooting from the field and did not allow a single three-pointer, as Columbia State finished 0-for-13 from beyond the arc. The Lions forced 15 turnovers and dominated the glass, outrebounding the Chargers 46–30, including 20 offensive rebounds that led to numerous second-chance opportunities.

Offensively, Wallace State shared the ball effectively, recording 27 assists on 34 made field goals, while shooting 43.3 percent from three-point range.

Zamyra Goode led the Lions with 18 points, adding four rebounds, six assists, three steals and a block in a standout all-around effort. Taylor Smith followed with 15 points, five rebounds, three assists, two steals and a block, while Sinaya Gibson contributed 14 points and six rebounds.

Leah Childress and Kameron Sanders each scored 10 points. Sanders added nine rebounds, four assists and a steal, while Childress finished with three rebounds and a steal. Idaysia Mercer chipped in six points and six assists, and Heather Tetro added six points, two assists and a steal.

Karma Wynn scored five points with three rebounds, and Nia Smith pulled down eight rebounds to go along with five points and two blocks. Jada Peterson and Bailey Tetro rounded out the scoring.

With the win, Wallace State improves to 15–0 on the season. The Lions will open conference play next Thursday with a road trip to Bishop State.
