Wallace State Women Roll Past Columbia State in Season Opener, 76-39
Wallace State women's basketball tipped off the 2025-26 season in dominant fashion, cruising to a 76-39 road win over Columbia State (TN) on Thursday night.
The Lions jumped out to a 24-16 lead after the first quarter and began to separate themselves in the second, outscoring the Chargers 17-8 to take a 41-24 advantage into halftime. Wallace State's defense clamped down in the second half, holding Columbia State to just 15 total points over the final two quarters while building a 55-33 lead heading into the fourth.
Freshman guard Leah Childress made an impressive collegiate debut, leading the Lions with 23 points and four assists. Taylor Smith powered the frontcourt with a double-double, tallying 18 points and 13 rebounds to go along with several strong defensive plays in the paint. Kameron Sanders added nine points and orchestrated the offense with poise, while Zamyra Goode contributed seven points and nine rebounds in a balanced team effort.
The win gives Wallace State (1-0) a strong start to the new season under head coach Joseph Simmons.
