Wallace State men’s tennis opens NJCAA Division II National Championship play Tuesday
PLANO, Texas — Wallace State men's tennis will open play Tuesday in the NJCAA Division II National Championship at Collin College with seeded entries across all six singles flights and all three doubles flights.
The Lions enter the national tournament with two No. 1 singles seeds. Luka Uzelac is the top seed in Flight 5, while Tom Kopf is the No. 1 seed in Flight 6. Wallace State also has Angel Gautier seeded No. 3 in Flight 1, Alexander Grube Andersen seeded No. 2 in Flight 2, Jean Badenhorst seeded No. 4 in Flight 3 and Francois Van Wyk seeded No. 2 in Flight 4.
Gautier will be the first Wallace State player on court Tuesday, facing Marshawn Gallego in Flight 1 singles at 11 a.m. Grube Andersen will follow at 12:15 p.m. against Juna Manuel Cifuentes in Flight 2, while Badenhorst will also play at 12:15 p.m. against Edward Dulin in Flight 3.
Van Wyk opens Flight 4 singles at 1:30 p.m. against Robert Cole Beard. Uzelac will begin Flight 5 singles at 1:30 p.m. against the winner of Jack Tutor and Diego Sasamoto Pareja. Kopf will open Flight 6 singles at 2:45 p.m. against the winner of Hayden Williams and George Gould.
Wallace State also enters the tournament with three seeded doubles teams. Gautier and Grube Andersen are the No. 3 seed in Flight 1 doubles and will open against Juan Luca Cividini and Manan Kumar at 5:15 p.m.
Badenhorst and Van Wyk are the No. 3 seed in Flight 2 doubles and will face Gavin Robles and Ned Simpson at 6:30 p.m. Kopf and Matias Vargas are the No. 1 seed in Flight 3 doubles and are also scheduled to play at 6:30 p.m.
The Lions advanced to the national tournament after winning the ACCC championship in April. Wallace State will compete throughout the week in Plano as players look to advance through the championship brackets in both singles and doubles play.
