#8 Lions Sweep #17 Northwest Mississippi 9-0 on the Road
SENATOBIA, Miss. – The No. 8 Wallace State men's tennis team delivered a dominant performance on Feb. 21, sweeping #17 Northwest Mississippi 9-0 at Northwest Mississippi Community College. The Lions controlled the match from start to finish, earning victories on all three doubles courts and all six singles courts to complete the shutout.
Wallace State set the tone early with a doubles sweep, then carried that momentum into singles play with six straight wins to secure the victory.
Eight Lions contributed to the win, led by Jean Badenhorst, Luka Uzelac, and Gus Maibaum, who each earned victories in both doubles and singles competition. Will Johnson, Matias Vargas, and Anton Belius added singles wins, while Alex Hernandez and Cam Clifton contributed to the doubles sweep.
Badenhorst and Johnson opened doubles play with an 8-3 victory on the top court. Maibaum and Vargas followed with an 8-1 win on court two, while Hernandez and Uzelac completed the sweep with an 8-3 victory on court three.
In singles play, Badenhorst led the way with a 6-1, 6-0 win on court one. Uzelac followed with a 6-2, 6-2 victory on court two, while Maibaum added a 6-1, 6-1 win on court three. Johnson earned a 6-4, 6-2 victory on court four, Vargas delivered a 6-0, 6-2 win on court five, and Belius capped the match with a 6-1, 6-3 win on court six.
