No. 8 Lions cruise to road win at Bevill
JASPER, Ala. – The No. 8 Wallace State men's tennis team continued its strong start to the season with an 8-1 road victory over Bevill State, showcasing a dominant performance across doubles and singles play. Wallace State improved to 5-0 on the year, controlling the match from the opening point.
The Lions set the tone early by sweeping all three doubles courts, then followed with five wins in singles action to secure the team victory.
Eight Lions contributed to the win, led by Angel Gautier and Alexander Grube, who each earned victories in both doubles and singles play. Francois Van Wyk and Tom Kopf also turned in strong performances with wins across both formats, while Nikith Surapaneni and Will Johnson added to the doubles sweep.
Gautier and Grube opened doubles play with an 8-2 victory over Max Knauer and Chi-Wei Yang on the top court. Kopf and Van Wyk followed with an 8-4 win on court two over Ilian Delalande and Mijael Obregon. Surapaneni and Johnson completed the sweep with an 8-3 victory over Luke Gardner and Sam Barclift.
In singles play, Grube led off with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Knauer on court one. Gautier followed with a 6-1, 6-2 victory on court two over Delalande, while Van Wyk added a 6-2, 6-2 win on court three against Yang. Kopf secured a hard-fought 7-6, 6-2 win over Obregon on court five, and Johnson closed out the match with a 6-1, 7-6 victory over Reggie Henson on court six.
Bevill State's lone point came on court four, where Luke Gardiner defeated Surapaneni 7-6, 6-0.
