#8 Lions Sweep Coastal Alabama North 9-0
MILLBROOK, Ala. – The No. 8 Wallace State men's tennis team turned in a dominant performance on Feb. 10, sweeping Coastal Alabama North 9-0 at 17 Springs in Millbrook. The Lions controlled the match from start to finish, improving their record with an emphatic shutout victory.
Wallace State set the tone early by sweeping all three doubles courts, then carried that momentum into singles play with wins on all six courts to complete the clean sweep.
Six Lions recorded victories on the day, led by Francois Van Wyk, Jean Badenhorst, and Nikith Surapaneni, who each earned wins in both doubles and singles competition. Gus Maibaum, Gabriel Garrido, and Matias Vargas also contributed to the doubles sweep, while Will Johnson added a singles victory to round out the team effort.
Van Wyk and Maibaum opened doubles play with an 8-1 win from the top court. Badenhorst and Surapaneni followed with an 8-1 victory on court two, while Garrido and Vargas completed the sweep with an 8-1 win on court three.
In singles play, Van Wyk secured a 6-3, 6-1 win on court one. Badenhorst followed with a 6-3, 6-0 victory on court two, and Surapaneni added a 6-1, 6-0 win from court three. Maibaum delivered a dominant 6-0, 6-0 result on court four, while Johnson earned a 6-1, 6-1 victory on court five. Vargas capped the match with a 6-0, 6-1 win on court six.
