Lions Blank Berry College 7-0 at Rome Tennis Center
ROME, Ga. — The Wallace State men's tennis team remained unbeaten on the season with a commanding 7-0 victory over NCAA Division III Berry College on Friday at the Rome Tennis Center. The Lions were dominant from start to finish, sweeping all six singles matches and claiming the doubles point to complete the shutout.
Wallace State clinched the team victory with a perfect 6-0 showing in singles play. At the top of the lineup, Alexander Grube outlasted his opponent in a thrilling three-set battle, earning a 6-2, 4-6, 13-11 win in the deciding super tiebreaker. Angel Gautier followed with one of the day's most decisive performances at No. 2 singles, rolling to a 6-0, 6-1 victory.
Francois Van Wyk delivered another key point at No. 3, grinding out a tough 7-6 (9-7), 7-5 win, while Badenhorst cruised at No. 4 with a convincing 6-1, 6-2 result. Luke Uzelac added a straight-sets win at No. 5 by a score of 6-4, 6-2, and Tom Köpf closed singles play with a solid 6-2, 7-5 victory at No. 6.
The Lions also controlled doubles play, securing the lone doubles point to push the final score to 7-0. Gautier and Grube teamed up for a 6-4 win at the No. 1 position, while Köpf and Van Wyk earned a dominant 6-2 victory at No. 2 doubles. Berry College picked up its lone match win at No. 3 doubles.
With the sweep, Wallace State improves to 3-0 on the season as the Lions continue to build momentum early in the spring schedule.
