Boaz, Ala. — The Wallace State men's tennis team opened the 2026 season in dominant fashion, sweeping Gadsden State 9–0 in a road match played at Snead State on Friday.
The Lions controlled the match from start to finish, winning all six singles matches and all three doubles contests to secure the season-opening victory.
Wallace State was flawless in singles play, posting a 6–0 sweep without dropping a set. At No. 1 singles, Alexander Grube set the tone with a 6–0, 6–0 victory. Angel Gautier followed with a matching 6–0, 6–0 win at No. 2, while Luke Uzelac earned a 6–0, 6–0 decision at No. 3.
Nikith Surapaneni was equally impressive at No. 4 singles, picking up a 6–1, 6–1 win. Tom Koepf added a 6–0, 6–1 victory at No. 5, and Gus Maibaun completed the singles sweep with a 6–0, 6–1 win at No. 6.
The Lions carried that momentum into doubles play, where they secured all three matches to complete the shutout. The No. 1 doubles team of Gautier and Grube cruised to an 8–0 win, while Surapaneni and Koepf posted another 8–0 victory at No. 2 doubles. At No. 3, Maibaun and Matias Vargas sealed the match with an 8–3 win.
The sweep marks a strong start to the season for Wallace State, showcasing depth across the lineup and a high level of consistency in both singles and doubles competition.
