Howard Selected to Lead Wallace State Flag Football

Wallace State Community College has chosen Daniel Howard to coach women's Flag Football, according to announcement today by President Vicki P. Karolewics.
"We are excited to have Coach Howard recruit and lead the first Wallace State women's Flag Football team," said Karolewics. "We are looking forward to many successful seasons of flag football and hope many students will develop skills while competing that they can use for life."
Howard also serves as the college's Athletics Coordinator and is a volunteer assistant coach with the Wallace State Baseball team and Cross Country. He is an experienced coach who has been actively involved in coaching baseball, football, basketball, flag football and track and field from youth to high schools. Howard holds a bachelor's degree in business management and a master's degree in sports management from Waldorf University.
"I'm honored to be selected as coach of the Wallace State women's Flag Football team," Howard said. "My goal is to build a team of young women who put their best foot forward both on the field and in the classroom."
Wallace State announced the addition of women's Flag Football late last year. The first squad is expected to begin play in Fall 2025.
Wallace State will compile a roster of about 20 players on its team. Scholarships will be available.
Howard will host a showcase/try outs on Sunday, April 6 from 2 to 5 p.m., on the soccer field for anyone interested in learning more about flag football or trying out for the team. The soccer field is located on the back side of campus, north of the softball field and across from the Wellness Center parking lot. Participants may pre-register at
Wallace State's team will be one of several in the Alabama Community College System and it is sanctioned by the National Junior College Athletics Association.
Flag football is a non-contact sport with teams of 7 each. Similar to traditional football, the goal is to move the ball down the field and across the goal line. If the player carrying the ball has their flag pulled or goes out of bounds, they are called down. A team has four downs to advance the ball for a first down or score. A touchdown is 6 points with options for extra points.
