Thank you for your interest in becoming a 2019-2020 Wallace State Cheerleader! We are extremely excited about this upcoming year and are thrilled you want to be a part of it. Tryouts will be held on April 26-27 in the Wellness Center on the Wallace State Campus. On Friday, April 26, the tryout clinic will begin at 4 p.m. and Saturday, April 27 doors open at noon and tryouts begin at 1 p.m. Mandatory practice to follow!
GIRLS: Please wear form fitting attire and GUYS: Please wear athletic shorts with polo shirt tucked in on the day of the tryout, April 27. Both in school colors and look Game Day Ready! The Wallace State Cheerleaders have a clean, modest look. All guys should be clean shaven and girls should stray away from heavy makeup. Please tuck your shirt in for the tryout!
In January 2018, Wallace State’s Cheerleaders earned 4th place nationally at the UCA event in Orlando after finishing third in 2017. In July 2016, the Cheerleaders finished first overall at summer camp in Tuscaloosa, winning top sideline chant and finishing second in cheer and fight song.

Wallace State’s Cheerleading program consists of up to 24 members. Wallace State cheerleaders cheer for all men’s and women’s basketball games, represent the college at several events on campus and are ambassadors for Wallace State throughout the community. The Wallace State cheerleading squad is one of the premier community college squads in the nation. The WSCC Cheerleaders won the UCA National Championship in 2004 and 2006.
Although the required skills for Wallace State cheerleaders may vary from year to year, there are some requirements which are standard. Tumbling skills are a standing back tuck, standing back handspring back tuck, 2 to tuck, layout or full and a tumbling pass which consists of at least a round of back handspring tuck, layout or full. Stunt skill requirements are based upon past team members’ abilities and overall talent level of participants. A toss extension, toss shoulder stand, and toss lib will be required, as well as a toss heel stretch with a full-down cradle and a toss cupie.
Scholarship Information: Wallace State Cheerleading is a scholarship program. As part of Student Activities and the Athletic Department, scholarship assistance is available to all of our cheerleaders. For the 2017-2018 year, we will award ten scholarships each to men and women. Other scholarships are available. Our full athletic scholarships cover tuition, books, and fees, and the full tuition scholarships cover tuition and fees. Each cheerleader will receive a minimum $250.00 each semester for books. Scholarships are awarded based on score, grades and need. Please note that scholarship funds may not be applied to a student’s account until the applicant has completed their financial aid application at www.fafsa.ed.gov. Academics First: Wallace State College provides tutors upon request to student-athletes in need. We also monitor each cheerleader’s grades and will intervene when necessary. The student-athletes will receive assistance with scheduling difficulties and are excused from class during required athletic events. Wallace State College cheerleaders are fortunate to have access to exceptional facilities, including a practice room with mirrored walls and a full competition floor. They also have use of the weight room, training rooms, and video facilities.
