Director of Athletics
Paul Bailey, a longtime employee of the college, has served as Wallace State’s Director of Athletics since February 2011.
Bailey oversees 10 athletic teams at Wallace State: men’s and women’s basketball, baseball, softball, men’s and women’s golf, volleyball, men’s and women’s tennis and cheerleading and also plays an integral role in making the Alabama High School Athletic Association (AHSAA) Northwest Regional one of the best postseason high school events in the state.
Bailey joined Wallace State in 1991, serving as the Director of Sports Medicine and as an Athletic Trainer, during which time he served as instructor and trainer for the teams. In 1999, he was named the Director of the Physical Education Department, teaching and overseeing the instruction of the department. During his tenure, Bailey has also held positions as an assistant tennis coach and intramural director.
Bailey earned his bachelor’s degree from Auburn University in 1989, where he served four years as a student trainer for the football and baseball programs. He earned his master’s degree in Sports Administration/Education from UAB in 1997.
Bailey is Wallace State’s third Director of Athletics, joining Randy Putman and Dr. James C. Bailey, the second president of the college.
